埃伦丘吉尔森普尔
美国地理学家。地理环境决定论的代表人物。又译辛普尔。生于路易斯维尔，卒于西棕榈滩。曾任克拉克大学教授。她致力于研究地理环境对人类体质、思想文化、经济发展与国家历史的影响 ，强调自然地理条件的决定性作用 。著有《美国历史及其地理条件》、《地理环境的影响》、《地中海地区地理及其与历史的关系》。
人物生平
埃伦森普尔于1863年1月8日的内战中出生在路易斯维尔肯塔基州。
到她16岁时，她在纽约的Poughkeepsie学院学习。
森普尔参加瓦萨学院，她在19岁时她就获得学士学位，历史学士学位。她是全校的第一名，在1882年是最年轻的研究生。
继瓦萨，森普尔回到路易斯维尔，她教她的姐姐开办了私人学校。
在1887年她的母亲到伦敦，森普尔遇见了一名刚刚完成了博士的美国男子在莱比锡大学（德国）。
她回家就完成硕士写的论文题目奴隶制的工作：一个社会学的研究和学习社会学，经济学，历史，这使她获得了她的硕士和学士学位。
